Standard WMS systems treat every SKU as an independent line item, however, when an apparel item such as a jacket comes in multiple colors, different sizes and configurations (attributes), clothing distribution software uses a specialized process that includes all possible configurations in one sku. The master sku (jacket) has unique characteristics that are displayed on the order, so the picker must be directed to the item based on these attributes. The WMS system will not allow the picker to complete the pick without the proper style, color and size being scanned. This feature allows a company to simply create one master sku with multiple attributes rather than creating an individual sku for each variation of the master product.
